Lap the Map 2024
The Lions Clubs of Toora and Yarram are once again taking part in Lap-the-Map annual event which is aiming at raising awareness and funds for diabetes prevention and research.
In the lead –up to World Diabetes day on November 14th, the Toora Lions club has planned a walk around town and the Rail Trail culminating in a friendly lunch time BBQ to be held at Sagasser Park, the Lions Park in Toora. This event not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also support the Lions Diabetic Alert Dog program which provides Diabetic Alert Dogs to Australian with type 1 diabetes at no cost.
Nationally all the participants who have registered for the walk, will add the distance that they have covered and a tally will be issued on World Diabetes Day with the aim of having covered(at least) the circumference of the Earth( 25 760kms).
The Toora Lions Lap-the-Map Walk will take place on Sunday November10th, with a registration and welcome session at Sagasser Park, departing soon after. Pooches of all sizes and colours are welcome to take part. At the end of the walk a fellowship BBQ will be provided by the Toora Lions Club at a cost of $5.00 per person.
If you wish to participate please contact the Toora Lions on 0402 480 692 (Noelle) or email tooralions@gmail.com so we can plan for catering purposes.
Are you planning to participate this year?
On a lovely sunny Sunday, 10 November, 2024 the Lions Club of Toora along with members of the Yarram Lions and a few locals combined in a walk around Toora in aid of Diabetes and to raise awareness with this debilitating disease. This year, the Lions Hearing Dogs Foundation which also trains diabetes dogs (dogs who recognize when a diabetic‘s blood sugar is too low), co-hosted this national event.
After the walk, totalling some 35 kilometres everyone returned to Sagasser Park for a BBQ lunch and get together. Both the Toora and Yarram Lions Club will donate to this worthy cause. Last year Toora Lions donated $1,500.00.
Acknowledgment goes to the Yarram Plaza Hot Bread who sponsored this event with a kind donation of whole meal bread for the BBQ. Your community involvement is greatly appreciated.
